Hello Fintan, and hello Alec! I remember both of you well (forgot to
add you to my list of halloos though I see, sorry). I've read many
interesting posts by you fellows back in the day. Ahh, the mental
juice that once flowed through these happy halls ...
Our telephone system fell apart back here in my woods years ago, and
dialup became useless as cellphones took over. Now, finally wireless
internet is here, and of course I got myself a usenet subscription ...
and was saddened to see how quiet it has become.
I suppose facebook and twitter, et. al. have supplanted this medium.
If so, too bad for me, because I refuse to go there.
Lately there has been much talk about how controlling these "free" web
based services are becoming, along with much dialog about how this can
be corrected. My old and outdated two bits is: Usenet is still there,
right where it was abandoned, and still free and uncensored ...
Anyway, it is truly nice to hear from you. Thanks for posting ... I
will gladly buy us all a virtual round as long as we're here!
